I recommend for psych students (and others) a few books available at our local public library. These are:
The Cure of Folly
and
Daggers of the Mind:
Psychiatry and the Myth of Mental Disease

by Gordon Warme, M.D.

I include these NOT because I agree with every word and in fact, I find much of this disturbing, but because they offer some insights into how the minds of psychiatrists have been trained to work.

Agnes's Jacket By Professor Gail Hornstein
and 
A Schizophrenia Breakthough by Al Siebert, PhD.
Who was psychiatrized while TRAINING in psychiatry. 

I hope that these will help to get you to questioning and rethinking the psychiatric status quo.

Our Firmly Entrenched Dysfunctional Belief System 

...trains us all to believe that our splitting and projecting is normal, that those inherently inferior “others” upon whom we are projecting our own delusion cannot really see, hear or understand us, even if we are acting out like delusional from four feet away, and that if they “think” they can, the problem is in THEM for “thinking” they understand us and not in “us” for thinking they can't. It is in fact, those who are very often the most in touch with the perfectly obvious reality, who are the most likely to get a psychiatric label. They get  identified as the 'seriously' ill for talking about it, and are therefore perceived as a threat to the dysfunctional status quo which the majority it seems, will defend to the death.....of ALL of us, themselves included.

Physical and Metaphysical 

They actually go together...to resolve it on one level resolves it on the other as well.

Let’s Hide the Truth so we can look for it! 

Human Beings Like to Hide the Truth from Themselves…and then spend an endless amount of time searching for the “hidden” meaning in all they say and do.

Thinking in Terms of Bio Psych 

If the one in “authority” is heading heads toward a cliff and is about to fall off, I can't say anything as it might upset him to have to hear it, or it might cause him to doubt his authority. More than that though, I will have to fall off the cliff with him so he won't find me “O.D.D.” We may both end up dead in the end, but at least on the way down, he won't have to suffer any self doubt or feel “awkward” and I will be highly praised by authority for my compliance. Could it get much better than that? Well, I am just 'self important' enough to think that it could... Of course that is probably because I don't understand the human mind like bio psychiatrists since I have not been highly trained like those in authority.

The Dysfunctional Family is an S.T.D.

I probably shouldn’t have suggested that. Knowing how bio psych thinks, they will probably try to treat it with penicillin which will, no doubt, need to be taken for the rest of your life-just like insulin.[1] Does it ever strike anyone else as ironic that when bio psychs became such converts to the disease model in looking at life problems, that they even try to cure being driven insane by groups of dysfunctional people with an overdose of insulin?
